Victim or Overcomer?

All of us will at one time or another experience something in which we’re the victim. That’s normal. The question we face then is will I become a victim or overcomer?

There are plenty of people we all know who live with the victim mindset. They constantly talk about what others do to them, how ‘they’ have it in for them, how powerless they are to make changes. These people continually blame others for what happens to them.

It’s easy to see which way they answered the question, victim or overcomer.

But that’s not the way things have to be. It’s not the way things should be if you want to be successful in anything you attempt. You can choose between being victim or overcomer.

It is about choice. We all have a choice in how we live. There may be things that are out of our control that happen to us, but we choose how we respond to those things.

Victims choose to be stuck. Victims choose to go through life with a “poor me” attitude. Victims expect others to give them what they want, what they “deserve”, what are their “rights”. When these things don’t come their way, they blame everyone else.

Often, victims will tell others and will believe that “this is just the way I am” or “I’m not good at that” or “the only luck I have is bad luck”. They say and believe these things to give them an excuse not to try something new or different.

Overcomers choose things and ways of looking at life that make life better. They don’t wait for things to happen in their lives, they are proactive. They choose to do things rather than wait on things. They have a much more positive attitude about themselves, their circumstances, about life.

Overcomers learn to set goals for their lives. Goals that can be reached with some effort. Once they reach a goal, they reward themselves, then set new goals that require more work. The more of these you reach, the more your motivation to set and reach more goals, and the more fun you have along the way.

When you’re faced with the decision about being a victim or overcomer, you’re faced with a decision that will guide the rest of your life. Do you want to go through the rest of life depressed, angry, disappointed? Then choose the role of victim. Do you want to go through life feeling energized, motivated, satisfied, and self-confident? Choose to be an overcomer.

Will you fail? Probably at some things. But the only people who don’t fail at things are those who never try anything. Shifu Raymond Ahles at Blue Dragon School of Martial Arts is ready and able to help you in practicing the basics of kung fu and in learning the skills that will help you in making your decision to be an overcomer.
